Our community pays for a private garbage carter; the city has refused to provide the service. We recently learned that "all garbage collection is included in city taxes.” Do we have any recourse? The tax bills are not itemized.

I think more research is needed.

I suggest the board designate two directors to contact the city; cite the ordinance or law that says the city is supposed to pick up garbage, and ask why the city is not doing so.

Agree.

It's also possible that garbage collection, although paid for with taxes, simply does not include your area.
As an example: I live just outside city limits and have to provide my own trash service.

Research and discussions with the appropriate city departments would be required.

Thank you both. We are located within the city limits, as are 11 other communities with about 2K people. We will investigate further.

This isn’t uncommon.

Your city likely provides trash collection to single family homes located on dedicated streets and does not provide trash collection for apartment complexes, condos, and commercial property.

The common denominators is the properties are owned by corporations / companies and the cities trucks are required to enter private property.
