Our HOA signage article states "no advertising". I'm ok with that. My question pertains to security signage like "ADT". I guess that is still considered advertising??

Some might call an ADT sign advertising. Some might call the sign protection as well. This is because the sign tends to deter possible burglars.

IMO a board would be legally foolish to ban ADT signs. Some reasonable HOA regulation of ADT signs might be fine.

Our documents ban most signs but has an exemption for the small security system signs. Owners want potential thieves to know they have a security system.

Sorry, what does "ADT mean? Would it imply armed staff? Or cameras ? Or occasional staff patrols? Or?

ADT is an alarm company. ADT, as well as other alarm companies, provide an approx. 12x12 sign and window decals to allegedly deter the thieves.

These signs really junk up a neighbor amd really aren’t needed IMO. My HOA regulates both the signs and decals with restrictions on size, height, location, and condition.

A sign that shows this house protected by XYZ security is not advertising under the law. Personally
I would not want a sign that tells the potential bad guy that I have a security system and what brand.
I like the element of surprise.
Besides, why announce to the world what security system you have? It gives the bad guys a one up if they are
savvy enough to disable security systems, still I am for the surprise.

Irregardless of the law, it’s advertising.
