We have a small gym that is open from 4am-9pm in our community center. Problem is the restrooms are only available when the office is open. They lock the door to the hallway that has the restrooms.
Is this legal to have a gym and not have restroom access?

Legality is something you may need to ask your local government or an attorney.

Have you asked your board what can be done to keep the restrooms accessible?

Have you considered options and costs to keep the restrooms accessible?

If it is required and it costs to much money in security or physical modifications to keep the restrooms available, it is possible that the Association might end up adjusting the hours of the gym to coincide with the hours of the office.

I see zero reason why this would be illegal.

With Dean, I see no reason why lack of restroom access "after horus,"would be "illegal."

I can see why the hallway to it would be locked when the mgmt. in't in their office. No way to monitor it, i.e., check to make sure it's clean the whole time it's open. Also to prevent make sure it's clean. Also to keep out some who may use it for illicit purposes, like smoking or...use your imagination. Or even vandalize it.

To add staff to monitor it would be too costly for a board to consider for this purpose. Reducing the hour would yeaild very angry residents who use it early or late
Is it really a long way from the gym to your Unit or some other.

In a Chicago high rise-- ah such an adventure for a year-- there was a very small gym with no nearby restroom. but a nearby elevator ride to my 13th floor condo was quick.

I like to walk to th gym and the back. It is over a mile from my house. With at least a 45 min workout with drinking a lot of water (Florida and hot outside)at our age is hard to hold it that long. Hopefully after our elections things will be more friendly to ask for the small things. It's just a hallway all other doors are locked.

Oooooh, so it really is a long way from your home to the gym! I'd say lack of access to the rest room is certainly inconvenient for you, but suspect cost to motor the restroom in management's absence might be a big reason why it'slockeed.

In your opinion, who would monitor the rest room after mgmt. hours? A custodian? Or some other staff member?? And would that take them away from their "normal" assignments? If you can figure this out, perhaps you can present it to the Board at an open forum.

For now, it seems you should drive there and take your 2-mile walk at some other time.

If the bushes outside start dying, at least you'll know why.

Maybe you should first ask why this policy exists. It is likely another small thing that caused this policy to be in effect - like someone over flowing a toilet after business hours and damage to the facility.
