Hello,

When I first started within the condominium building I currently help to manage (one day hoping to be a full-time property manager) we had a common bulletin board in the mailroom. Although this was pretty ugly we had a lot of people using it to post events, things for sale, looking for.. etc.

We have since removed it and I find that more and more people are asking us to post these things for them in our 'lock and key' board. Obviously this falls on my lap as an assistant.

What is your policy on this? Should we just let them have the 'common' board back? Most times we don't even have anything in our locked bulletin board anyway but it's an administrative hassle to post/remove these things.

I'm so glad I found this site as I'm learning a lot from the posts on here

thank you

Adam,
Who has keys to the lock and key board? If all of the residents do, then let them use that. If they do not have keys, why not put back another board in the original location. Why was the original board removed? REMEMBER, they own the building and you work for them. If they want a board, I would get them a board.

AdamH1,

I personally don’t see a problem with having the board (in the mail room) to share information, with others it’s a great way to encourage communication among residents of the condo association. However, I would make it very clear to ALL that “if” any information can be removed if the board or PM feels it is necessary.

You may want to verify that having it hung on the wall isn’t against the fire code. I know the fire marshals are rather “picky” about paper elements hanging from the walls here in Georgia.

Just my opinion though.

In the company I worked for, we put a schedule up regarding the deadline for posting new information for the week, and also put a deadline for how long posts would be left up.

In other words:

You get to control the schedule of when things go up and come down.

Items received in your office by close of business Friday will be posted in the lock&key bulletin board by Monday a.m.

Classifieds - up for 2 weeks
Event notices - up for 2 weeks
Business notices (i.e., child care, etc) - up for 4 weeks

(or whatever the categories are that you usually get and also whatever length of time you want to post them.)

Then, each item is DATED on when it came in, the date it was posted and the date it is expected to be cycled down.

Then you only have to deal with ONE day of the week that you are posting and/or removing items.
