Medians in my neighborhood is a hot topic. They are all different sizes. The one by my house actually splitting road in half for about 3 driveways. It is rarely mowed. Mulched occasionally.

Most people hate them. They do not understand they are there for a few reasons. Slow drivers. Sewer installation height. Cross walk protection.

Apparently the city came out. They are to redo or take them out. However there is talk about speed humps... I am so against.

Not to stir up emotions I have simply stated that good for no islAnds but speed humps worse...

Should I just take a deep breath and let the naive figure out how to complain about the replacement speed humps or warn them to stop stupid?

They will not stop the stupid. Take away their Gripe du Jour, they'll find a new one. It's how we humans roll.

I hear you about the speed bumps. A condo community near where I used to live installed them, and I always wondered when they finally realized what that did to snow removal...

When landscaped and maintained properly, the added green space adds aesthetics to the community. Have your HOA accept responsibility to maintain the mulch and mowing. Problem solved.

Normally agree but in this case no. They are all different sizes. Not all have landscaping. Just a small concrete rise a out 3 feet by 5 feet. The one on my street is the largest. My neighbor is an Ahole who likes to park his truck on it. Plus his wife is such a genius that she will have guests park on their side. This blocks an entire land of traffic. Which forces people to turn around in my driveway.

So it is a great tool and I like them. However these are poorly installed and maintained. They do not slow anyone down. They have launched a few cars and flipped them.

If they had installed multiple ones of equal width and height be no issues. Be better than humps. They just missed the mark.

Btw our city has done this before in other areas and failed miserably.

Melissa,
Some things to consider the people who live near these Humps or bumps depending on what style is chosen will likely hate them. If they are bumps the low rider vehicles will bottom out and the speeders will also make more than a normal amount of noise. Also it will slow emergency vehicles from getting to the people in need.

If you are against them, I would enlist the neighbors who will be affected and remind them what's about to happen.

Oh I am so against them. However most of my neighbors are new to HOA living and owning a house. Bad combo. A few think that replaced with humps is the answer. One time got in an argument with a neighbor whom thought they could just call some to make it happen. It does not work that way.

They are a nuisance to emergency vehicles. Those with sleeping babies. Plus they ruin holding any kind of special food holding...

Melissa, Wait until everyone has to replace the Shocks, Springs and Struts on their cars for the first time.
They will go to HD or HF and get a jackhammer to chisel them out.

The Islands are a much kinder approach and aesthetically pleasing if finished correctly.
