AITAH or does everyone's pool vendor get to pick and chose when they close the pool for things like acid washing?

In my warped messed up mind, I am of the mindset that the PMC and the board should be notified of these things in advance
so they can be put in the quarterly newsletter that nobody reads then complains 3 months after the gate code is changed annually in
February and is announced in January. I just feel the owners and residents deserve to know ahead of time that the pool is going to be closed
for acid washing and not come as a surprise when the pool gates are chained for no apparent reason. People can make alternate plans.

It happens. Life.

I had the pool care person knock on my door hour before pool opened on 4th of July weekend. Soaking wet. Pool pump exploded. Sheared off 3 bolts. I had to go find screws And/or pool store open to fix it that day. Otherwise I would had people like you non stop complaining about pool not being open during 4 the of July weekend. As if things do not have to be addressed in real life once and awhile.

A quarterly news letter might be the place to state the pool will be out of service some time in April. An whole community email is the place to notify owners the pool will be closed next week for acid washing or the gate code changes.

Use an email blast system to the owners usually done by the PM or an association run website.

Aside from an emergency which is completely understandable and unavoidable.

You can't plan for the unplanned events. The acid washing is a little confusing to me because that should be done during the offseason. When you have emergency closures due to health issues (brown stuff floating in the pool) no one should blame anyone other than the careless person or parent that let it happen. It is the Pool Monitors job to clear the pool asap and take direct action. Those events can close the pool for the day or 24 hours while it is chemically treated and tested. As others have mentioned and a closed sign and an email blast is all the warning required.

I've been sending out quarterly newsletters via email and I think I've gotten 2 replies in 2.5 years?
Meanwhile facebook seems to be most active complainers group.

In general the board gets numb because many residents can't read.
Our PM mistakenly sent out bills 3 months early. Posted on Facebook, for members to ignore the bill, posted 2x3' sign at entrance, posted notice on website portal, sent out email, only thing we didn't do is spend money on mailing out envelopes. And we still had majority of members pay early. I think 70%! so apparently people do read one thing! their mail.

Like MichaelM, our HOA uses "... an email blast system to the owners [and renters] usually done by the PM..." a few days in advance of the work.

A thing that I never managed to implement over these past months 'on leave' is a credentials-based access system for the pool. We've currently got these cruddy old obsolete pool fobs that use 26 bit Weigand protocol - it would be lovely to switch to something more modern that (for instance) allows us to email pool access to someone's cell phone. Also, these systems tend to allow for broadcast announcements, like you can send out a message that the pool is closed because of _____.

Those items should be scheduled by the pool vendor with the board and PMC. They both need to let the pool vendor know that in the future to please let them know the schedule ahead of time so they can properly inform the residents. Keep in mind the pool vendor works for the HOA Board and the HOA Board can replace them if they do not perform as requested or needed.

Yep and guess what, The pool is ready the Jacuzzi is not.. Pool vendor was out yesterday after I lit up the PM on Monday evening.

This it the part that makes me bat guano crazy, The PM's excuse was the weather. Sorry wrong answer. Don't half ass a job and come
back to it when you feel like it. Don't start and complete other customers and leave us hanging.

Like I said, vendor was out yesterday. Went to use the hot tub and the jets was dead. They were working perfectly before.

Now the pool will be chained again next week for a deck sealing. ENOUGH OF THIS CRAP. Schedule this stuff together

Besides complaining... what are you doing to help the situation?

Ideas:
- Volunteering your services to the HOA to form a committee to help with communicate updates/closures to members
- Offering your expert advice on scheduling pool maintenance procedures
- Etc

The HOA is made up of members and you are a member. If you want it to get better, make it better..... you.

Agree with Steve. LetA is a long-time board member and the main job is maintaining, protecting and enhancing the common areas.

Kind of behind the 8 ball right now. We are down to just 2 board members, myself and another owner. The last BOD fell off the list
because they never showed up for meetings and did not reply to emails. The PM still has not put anything in the newsletter about the vacancy
I reached out to a previous board member and they have no interest in serving because of the current PM.
I am hesitant to put out a call on ND asking for those interested to submit a bio for nomination.. Since the official election has
come and passed with no interested parties, this would now be a simple board decision to approve a potential owner to take over the term.

Never forget the property manager works for the board. And don't let the property manager forget it either.
