Just received the following email. Please excuse our ego for'tooting our horn'

"Hi Roger, I was checking some search engine rankings tonight and found an interesting one for you. If you search Google for "DARCO HOA Management", your HOATalk profile has the #2 spot and one of your posts is #3. Google top 10 spots are hard to get and these two positive links should help when prospects search for your company.

Congrats - that's an awesome honor. Actually you should be commended for it as well since you've earned it by VOLUNTEERING your expertise here! I sure hope to work with you one day and certainly won't have a problem sending recommendations to you - which should work out nicely since I communicate with at least 13 other HOAs in my area regularly.

Great job and THANK YOU for what you do here.

RogerB - I'm not trying to diminish your company, nor your value to HOATalk website. However (when in Google) you type in DARCO, or more generally Colorado HOA Management, nothing referring to your company comes up on the first page, and doesn't seem to come up at all. Meaning that that in order to achieve the #2 spot you have to type in a very specific search subject.

I was under the impression HOATalk had restrictions on advertising for business purposes?

Gerald: Just to clarify our policy: Only sponsors may advertise here and Roger is a sponsor. Roger's post is not so much an ad as it is a note to the people he knows here.

The support of our sponsors help keep this site running. It's quite an expensive endeavor to run a large/busy site like HOATalk and buy enough advertising to obtain 400-500 new members each month, as we have been doing for years.

Gerald: PS - You can pick lots of generic search terms that any company may want but not rank for. This is why some companies spend hundreds of thousands or millions trying to get various Google top 10 ranks.

For example, Coke and Pepsi are worth a combined $250 Billion. However, neither company's website ranks in the Google top 10 for: best soft drink

When you type in Pepsi, the official website comes up as #1, When you type in Coke the top 3 point to Coke's websites.

The words Diet Coke are # 2 when you type in best soft drink, and the link that comes up as #1 ranks Coke, Diet Coke, Pepsi, etc.

Correct, but my point was none of those sites are official Coke or Pepsi sites, yet they spend millions on Internet ads/ranking. The sites you see at the top are other people's websites discussing the products of Coke and Pepsi.

The bottom line & my only point: Obtaining top 10 Google search engine ranking is not easy.

Content is king on Google. And blogs are rapidly taking over the top spots because they generate a ton of content. Search "hoa law" and 4 of the top 5 are blogs.. The more publicly accessible on-point content you have, especially if the content relates to your top keywords, the higher you're going to rank.
