Before you make a decision, look into the latest safety laws regarding equipment, grounds, etc. Also, consider handicapped accessible playgrounds. Include lots of benches for grandparents and guests, too.

Good luck!

What types? Lots and large stuff or just smaller type equipment? Sometimes old schools torn down, you can try school districts. And I am in total agreement - be very careful of safety and liability issues, in particular when purchasing used.

Terry,

You have to be very careful if you decide to purchase used playlot equipment, older units may not meet current playground standards, if a child gets injured on non compliant equipment this could put your association at risk of a possible lawsuit. Our association is currently planning on replacing our park play equipment which is now over 25 years old. Our Board has done everything to make certain that things are well maintained on an annnual basis. However, we feel the time has come to invest in new equipment rather then go with any retro-fitting. Most of the available playlot equipment can be fianced with the company that provides the equipment, typically over a five year period. This helps when it comes to determining your annual assessments, rather then taking a big hit at one time. Below are some providers in your state who are a part of a group that we are working with here in Northwest Indiana. Below are three representatives that may assist you in your area. Please browse the listings below to identify your local representative.

Good luck,

thanks so much for the info. I was wondering about that. the play ground we have is original form late 1960's I know it has not been inspected,if ever. Not all is in working condition. I am having a hard time convincing the President of the board to comply with a lot of safety issues. I think I will have to call the city and have them look at the equipment and inform the Board of what we need to do. I have contacted the Lone Star company. maybe we can get them to work with us on a payment plan.

Terry,
Glad to be of some help, that's why we use this site, sharing HOA information.

Anyway, a good resource for playground safety guidelines is available at http://www.playworldsystems.com/pw/safety.asp

Scroll to the very bottom of the web page to get the pdf document ( FREE ASTMI/CPSC Playground Audit Guide).

Best regards, Dave
