Our BOD President wishes to subtract our newly re-formed Neighborhood Watch from being an official part of community and HOA, yet I was instructed to set up the new program for the HOA and recruited over 80%. Am researching and researching, no funds required for our NW program so financially no consideration for taxes, not finding anything but positives as to why NW should be an official part of community HOA.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Did you happen to ask him why? And is he speaking for the entire board or just himself? Did he or the board ask you to do this program?
Neighborhood Watch is an excellent program. So what if it isn't an official HOA sanctioned program. He does not have the authority to make you stop it. Just rename it and run it yourself. You have 80% of the neighbors interested. He's probably jealous of your success in recruiting the members. Sounds like you have a great political base there and could run for his job. LOL. Good Luck. Lol Harold and thanks! Well, just lost my Board position by proxy votes only and this stems from the same (my opinion but haven't been told that directly.) I believe it's more about me than about the program. Partly would love to dump it and get out of the fray but it's such a real benefit for the community that I just can't say no to volunteering for this.

I believe this is just the President and the President is the one who volunteered to create and control the community website (no one else has access or authority to do anything.) I am planning to request to do a presentation for the entire Board at the next BOD meeting so I can encourage this program and have BOD support for it.

Any ideas are completely welcome - I just want the benefits for the community.

Oh and yes, while I was ON the Board, I was asked to take this on and reform the NW.

ShawnaF: Too bad the Pres. has 'reconsidered' the NW program and now does not want it part of community and HOA. Not sure what impact that has to have on those who want to volunteer and continue a neighborhood watch program for the benefit of all community residents. Why can't you and others just continue with it?

Not sure what you are referring to when you state you want it "an official part of community HOA" and, "no funds required for our NW program so financially no consideration for taxes."

I also am not sure why this is even a Board decision to continue or discontinue. I formed a N.W. and is done strictly thru the County Sheriff's Dept. They answer any questions and provided us with the materials to form one. If the Board doesn't want any part of it, so be it. Just continue with the volunteers minus the Board. Once the President sees that you can function without his blessing, he may end up with mud on his face, especially if the membership knows that he tried to disband the "Watch"

The NW will continue to operate - period, I will see to that and will continue with meetings and education programs for the best interests of those involved and people can participate as they wish. There is just question as to whether it should be an "official" committee within the HOA. Seeing that there are official Golf, Flowerbed, Maintenance, National Night Out, and Welcoming Committees, I'm not sure why NW couldn't be official and other than the financial considerations I'm not finding any potential cons to present to the Board.

Regardless, it will remain, with 85% of the community now participating, it's clearly desired. Hopefully I can get it back on the community website one way or another rather than forming an entirely different website.

I'm really looking to see what other Board have decided with regard to making it "official" or unofficial as part of the HOA.

I agree with DonnaS. HOA's should not have any authority over NW as long as the NW respects that certain issues that relate to HOA are only address by the HOA. I am having that issue now. The previous NW leader and I did a change over and come to find out the HOA board has decided they have a right to over see our NW program. I am trying to find legal justification where I can keep NW as a separate entity within the community and not as a committee that is overseen by the HOA.

In our community it has to be separate because our Watch is associated with the County. But totally get the Presidential issues---we've had LOTS of those!
