I guess one of the benefits and pitfalls when residents post to ND and they post to all neighborhoods is the peanut gallery always chimes in.

WELL, Someone put Maria on BLAST.... They pointed out how their comments were highly inflammatory and teetering on defamation and slander.
They also pointed out that their accusations can land them in boiling water. They even went as far to tell them if they made the complaint to the
Ombudsman office that the is noting for the Ombudsman to investigate.

Maria apparently tucked in their tail deleted all the comments and deleted their account POOF they're gone.

LetA,
Next Door used to be the only social account I had access to when it started. Back then it was restricted to Your neighborhood. In the last several years they started giving posters the option to share the post outside their hoods. Now I believe it shares everywhere. This is obviously a way to spread posts and create an opportunity to grow and get bought by someone bigger.

In my opinion this has ruined the site and now makes it unusable. Sorry I was not following the Maria story but could not resist complaining about ND.

As a general comment, website owners can be held legally liable for content posted on their platform, which is why savvy website owners have Terms of Service that they enforce. (This is also why many HOA/COA attorneys strongly discourage their clients from allowing homeowners to post on association-owned sites.)

It's likely that users also complained to ND moderators about Maria's posts and that ND told her to knock it off or her account would be deleted.

I figured this would happen sooner or later - people think they can yap and yap with no consequences whatsoever (I gotta right to free speech!) Yes, you do, but you also have to take responsibility for what you say, as my dad used to say "don't let your mouth write a check that your ass can't cash."

Without naming names, the board could use this as a teachable moment by telling homeowners they're always welcome to ask the board about association issues, offer comments, criticisms and - offer to help the board do research or participate on an advisory committee commissioned to address them. That makes more sense then just getting mad and then catching a case of diarrhea of the mouth.

!00% agree. There used to be a good moderator nearby but they moved out of state, and we had 2 in the community leads that have since moved. I tried becoming a lead or community moderator
but ND told me no even tho I showed them that I am a BOD..

ND has become too whinny you can't type the word crap without some snowflake coming unglued and getting your post removed for posting hateful content.
Even that piece of hand jewelry doorbell company with their community messaging is completely off the rails
