Our Condo association uses a maintenance man that is provided by our management company. Recently, someone on the board provided him with an electric scooter. He can't carry any tools on it, but is seen riding around the u shaped parking lot on the scooter so he can get used to it. I called the management co and was told that the company that employs him has him covered with workers comp, and if he suffers a severe injury then the condo association has liability insurance, and why was I concerned about this?

Will his workers comp cover if he gets hurt on a scooter that we supplied, which is not necessary for his duties? Am I being a pain in the behind about this, or is this a problem?

The question would be why was the scooter provided?

I hope the director who gifted him the scooter doesn't expect special or quick service in exchange. Does the worker only maintain the common areas? Or does he fix times inside units tooo?

Since he is not employed by the HOA, but by the MC, it seems they are responsible for his insurance, but ....

The way I see it the maintenance man could trip on a crack on HOA common area as easily as he could get hurt on the scooter.

I would let this be and stay rested for bigger battles. If you simply cannot leave this be, raise it in the open forum section (required in Florida, IIRC) of the next board meeting. Then at least you have made the board aware.

Why would the PMC hire someone with limited abilities to perform rigorous maintenance and why wold someone
supply this individual with a mobility scooter???

A golf cart I could understand, you could carry tools and a stepladder, a scooter, not so much..

Something seems "off," to me, too LetA. I don't know his skills--maybe just "handyman" variety? Nita can tell us his duties. I'm also curious to know if the PM has an office on the premises ? Put another way, is this man supervised? By whom? If there's a common Area problem, can residents phone him, or?

Where is this E-scooter stored? Cool, dark, dry place, one hopes.

On balance, this seems like a minor topic. But, Nita has every right to know his duties, his hours.
