My Florida HOA board is holding a board meeting to interview a CAM for hire. Is it necessary to properly announce the meeting to the membership?

Yes, technically you are supposed to notice the meeting 48 hours in advance. It can be a closed meeting because it is a personnel issue. You would put up a notice with the note "closed meeting to discuss personnel issues".

The way we got around this was to have less than a quorum meet with the candidate at a time. So two in the room, then another two. The only reason we did this was because it was a last minute meeting and we didn't have time to put up the notice.

Frankly, I understand why sunshine laws are so important. But in our situation, it was not very pleasant to have to ask the current PM, who was losing her job, to put up notice that we were interviewing her replacement.

Those of you who are in states that allow executive sessions should be thankful. I know they can be abused, but there are times when they can be incredibly useful.
