Interesting article. It reminded me that a few years ago our HOA had some repair work done on a condo. The vendor subbed it out, didn’t pay and we received a copy of the lien notice that the owner received. The owner received it because it was a lien against their owned condo. Payment was an oversight on the vendor’s part and was cleared up quickly.

Good info for anyone who has work done. You never know when a vendor has hired a sub-contractor. This is NC, other states may be different.

Have to say part of this is the people hiring the contractor not asking the right questions. Plus not understanding or knowing the full scope of a project. It's tricky when hiring certain contractors due to the nature of the job. A remodel type job most likely will have other subs. A roof replacement not as much. It's pretty straight forward.

So knowing the scope and requirements of a job should help in preventing such situations.
