Electric vehicles banned from parking garage do to increased risk of fire. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Interesting to read. We now have maybe 25 EV charging stations in our underground garage and maybe 15 EV cars. No fuss yet.

Great - one more thing to raise condo insurance rates.

Condos with attached garages but without underground parking will have issues as well since our garages aren't equipped with smoke detectors or the fire suppression systems that cover the interiors of units. Our townhouse style homes don't even have interior fire suppression systems although we have firewalls between homes.

Apartment complexes will have to deal with this as well. In addition to the high rises in our central business district, new luxury apartment complexes that are being built in the suburbs often have underground parking garages.

I wonder how soon building codes will respond to this.

Another thought: our CC&Rs forbid any modifications that change the insurance profile of our buildings. EV charging stations sound like they could qualify.

You can't use water to put out an EV fire, foam is used.

Good thing old fashioned ICE vehicles don’t have any flammable materials in them…

It’s interesting to note that the Board lied to its members about the “risk” involved, and that the fire department called them on the lie. The silliness of the resistance to EV’s is inexplicable.

Thank you for pointing this out. Subsequently I read the article. A board not wanting to deal with new infrastructure is one thing. But lying like this board did is outrageous.
