We would like to use electronic voting this year for our annual meeting. Anyone have any experience with this? Hopefully there is an app or program for free or very minimal?

Yes, electronic voting is fantastic. Hopefully your governing documents or state law allow it.

To minimize conflict and accusations of cheating, I recommend hiring a professional elections inspector who conducts online inspections. The one my old condo association used was quite good and knew when and when not to consult an attorney.

Electronic voting almost guarantees quorum on the first try because it is so convenient. However, I wouldn't recommend getting a free program or even the cheapest one because there are security and customer service issues to consider. You will want to use a program that can ensure voters can only cast one ballot, and you might need help or support if this is your first time using such a program. Free software doesn't really owe you anything, and you're not likely to get the help or peace of mind you need.

we used electionbuddy last year, I think it was about $30
we did not reach 33% quorum, but were very close
if we had used lettersteam or some other online postcard service to send out reminders we might have got quorum.
one cannot change election results even if they admin it.
all the other ones were $600 or more.

We have used IVOTEHOA -likely the first time you use it you will have to do both paper and evote. Then reconcile the 2

My neighborhood has used this for the past two years, and will be using it again at our next annual meeting. It’s a bit pricey - I think we’re paying about $900 this year - but I like that it has the simplest, easiest interface and workflow I can imagine: it sends out individualized ā€˜ballot’ emails to residents (with randomly assigned random 10 digit ID numbers), the resident clicks on a link that takes them to the ā€˜cast your ballot page’, their 10 digit ID # is filled in for them, and they vote and hit ā€˜Submit’.

I’m not shilling for these folks - I simply like the way it works. Back when I was working in the computer biz, I often had to deal with barrier thresholds that could block the adoption of a product or service. One of the more common ones was the entire ā€˜log in / create id’ paradigm, which often just stopped a user dead in their tracks. I saw a demo of a voting system that worked like that. We could have used it for *free*, but I managed to talk everyone out of it, and I don’t regret it for a second.

If I had time, I’d shop around and try to find a different, cheaper system that with the workflow I prefer. I’ll bet they’re out there.

Hello SheilaB7,
When considering free software for electronic voting.
Free software, particularly in the FOSS realm, can offer several advantages that make it worth considering for electronic voting:

Transparency and Security: FOSS allows for transparency as the source code is openly available for inspection. This means that security vulnerabilities can be identified and addressed by a global community of developers. With proper community engagement, FOSS projects can ensure robust security measures and build trust in the voting process.

Customization and Adaptability: FOSS provides the flexibility to customize the software according to specific needs. By leveraging the expertise of developers within your organization or the wider FOSS community, you can tailor the electronic voting system to meet your requirements while ensuring data security and accuracy.

Cost-Effectiveness: FOSS eliminates licensing costs, making it an attractive option for organizations with limited budgets. Instead of investing in proprietary software, you can allocate those resources towards other critical aspects of your annual meeting.

Try searching for foss voting systems ect...
