Recently we have had some ono profit organizations submit a request to place Recyling Stations in the HOA parking lot at our clubhouse. Not only does this take up a couple of our very limited parking spaces it seems to me that it opens a can of worms that deals with maintaing the stations, injury, liability, damages and a flood or other requests from other non profits to do the same thing. Our CC&R does not speak to this issue and I was looking for any thought from other HOA Boards.

Take a look at your C&Rs Dennis. It's possible your Board may not change the use of or remove a portion of the common area without the votes of Owners.

You say some organization asked to do it and not fellow owners. Simply tell them no.

I agree with Kerry and John. If this station is meant to serve the public, it should be on public property.

I agree with Kerry and John.. Can you elaborate on what kind of Recycling? Recycling is too bland of a word. For us, we have recycle bins for glass, aluminum etc. If this
is clothing and household goods for donation, you might be better served holding a community garage sale and then invite someone like Goodwill or Salvation Army
to drive around and pick up any unsold items for donation. This is well received in our community and does not monopolize any parking spaces or any other common elements.

I like Let's suggestion. In fact, why not make it quarterly - people will get rid of stuff that still usable and if you have dumpsters in the community, this might help keep litter down, which can help beautify the area.

given the environmental problems we all face, recycling is very important for everyone. Just because your ccr's don't mention it doesnt' mean it isn't important for an HOA to advocate. You can always accept this great proposal and sign an agreement that they are liable and responsible for any issues and that if they dont' the containers will be removed.

Not in my backyard is a common response, but look at the consequences of such short sightedness! monarch butterflies are now endangers. we are in the 6th mass extinction and very likely my grand kids will live in a world where large mamals like tigers, lions, elephants can only be seen in the zoo. people need to wake up. we only have one planet.

If I were on this board, then the parking space issue alone would be why I would have voted against this. It's a big deal to take common area space that belongs to all owners, especially parking where parking is already crowded. It's also almost guaranteed to be a violation of the covenants. If I were an owner there, and because of the effect on parking, I would be disgusted with the board's approval of this.

If you are on the board, explain what you explained here and motion to return the parking spaces to their intended use.

Recycling stations may mean some bins or it may mean dumpsters.

I would want clarification.

This would be in addition to the clarifications to the excellent questions you posed.

Keep in mind that several States have made recycling mandatory.
So, if it can be worked out, such a station could be a good thing.
