Although these articles are aimed at businesses, I think some of the information (a lot in some cases) can be applied to board members who want to be more efficient and effective, not only in how they do the work but how they relate to their colleagues and homeowners at large

The first discusses ways to address inaction among board members who’ve been in their positions for some time and are married to the “this is the way we’ve always done it” mindset. It’s true that new board members should take some time to listen and observe how the board operates so they can get up to speed on association issues – and they find things aren’t as easy as they thought when they were running for the board. However, there are times when the old guard really are thick-headed and you may need to be creative in approaching them

The second talks about how one businessman eventually broke down barriers between another one and how they eventually became friends. Sometimes people really are oil and water, but you may also find you can develop a productive relationship with someone you really disliked in the beginning.
