We live approximately 20 miles from the Gulf of Mexico on the Tex-Mex border. About 6 years ago we installed QMI Battery powered shutters. After one of them started acting up we called a QMI Certified Tech (Overhead Door), which was the only agent in my area. They charged me $600.00 to come out and "perform maintenance" (lubricated) and then told me one of the motors needed replacement and that they only last 5 or so years. I called QMI and spoke to their parts department (Dominic) and he verified that the motors typically only last 5 years! AND that a replacement motor cost between $700.00 and $1,200, AND they come from Australia!
Any feedback on the service charge, Life expectancy of the motor, and replacement cost?

Thank you

Richard,

Please read the posting rules.
Mentioning of product names and manufacturers are not allowed.

Regarding service calls, the cost is what the market will take.

I had to call a gas specialist to rerun a gas line during some renovation work.
They told me it was $400 just to show up. This was due to the amount of insurance they had to carry. They have to pay for it somehow.

This may be an issue better handled on a forum for hurricane shutters.
