Hi, first time poster. Until now, just a lurker.
Our Bylaws expressly set the Annual Meeting date, time, and location. This year, the Board would like to revise the date by moving it one week forward to better align with schedules.
To accommodate, we are planning to call a Special Meeting for the desired date, noticing that business will be conducted to replace all the business normally done at the Annual Meeting, plus suspending the normally scheduled business meeting this year only as it would be redundant.
Admittedly a game, but has anyone else done something similar or have any opinions on the plan?
FYI, single-family HOA in WA state with 280 lots.

I would think that if a notice of the new date and an agenda was sent out at least 30 days prior to the meeting that no one would call you out on it.

We've had to reschedule annual meetings & elections a couple of time over several years. Proper notice is sent out. We've still termed it an annual meeting and election.

I may not be following you, though. What is the "normally scheduled business meeting?" Is that simply a board meeting?

The documents of most associations spell out the notice period for Annual or Special meetings, something like "Notice of the meeting shall be provided to the members of the Association not less than 10 days prior to the date of the meeting or nor more than 30 days in advance."

Find those words and follow them regarding sending notice.

I meant that we would be conducting the same business as at an Annual Meeting at this Special Meeting (e.g.: Trustee elections, budget ratification).
And to the other comments, we will be very careful to follow the rules for notice.

Your Bylaws probably tell you how to call a Special Meeting. That said, Special Meeting requirements are typically different then the Annual Meeting requirements. I say do not play games. Just send out the proper notice for an Annual Meeting. Call it such even if one week early. Also it is possible your Bylaws say on or before so and so date versus on so and so date?

Thanks for the reply, DavidK. I',m sticking with simply call it an annual meeting and give notice as required. Looks likeJohnC agrees.
