It is amazing how being on a HOA board brings out the very worst in people, their tyranny, arrogance, and the desire to rule over others. This, despite the fact they too live there, they are part of a small community, you may see them daily, and yet they are corrupt, self appointed elites, think of themselves as dictators. But, you may have noticed small town politics are lots of times just as corrupt, or worse, than the big ones. It is a government within the government, a sample of the bigger picture of how the world is run and why it is so screwed up. A word to all, do not walk but RUN from any real-estate that is governed by HOA, no matter how good it may look. They are 99% the same, and you will regret the pain they will cause you after you get trapped in their prison camp. I see no benefits of being an owner-resident in HOA, only the costs. You give up even much of your constitutional rights. How can that be?

Ok, Tom, it's clear you don't like living in a HOA - at least that's the impression I get from the last two or three conversations you've had on this website. So what is it you really want to know? On this website, we try to offer suggestions on how problems can be resolved - what's your situation? Yelling about the tyranny of a HOA board over and over might lower your blood pressure for a moment, but then you get riled up again and nothing changes.

Cathy has often said there are three ways to deal with HOA issues - learn to live with it, move or get involved to try and resolve the problem. What are YOU willing to do and why haven't you done it?

I agree this is the wrong place to just #itch about HOAs. We here are people who chose to step up and make change. Now here to educate others on how they can do the same. Plus offer some insight on how to best deal with a HOA situation when you feel need to.

So if you are not willing to "drink the HOA" as you will eventually tell us we do.. then what specific is the issue you are experiencing directly with your HOA you need help with?

99% of HOA's are bad? This statement alone is proof you don't know what you are talking about.

I agree that if you want to bytch about HOAs, this is not the website for you.

HOAs are like any other living situation. They have pros and cons, different people will value those things differently, and what's right for one person may be wrong for another. You have to decide this for yourself. You hate 'em? Fine, there are plenty of other places to live.

Ditto with lawyers, realtors, and anything else you care to name. There are good ones and bad ones. If you insist on seeing only the bad, then life has a way of giving you only the bad. You literally make your own reality.

Just spotted this quote on a different website: "If your worldview means no one can freaking win, then maybe you need a new worldview."

Words to live by.

From my experience Tom just got a violation letter in the mail. That is when people look to social sites like FB and ND to air the things, they hate about HOAs. My guess is he has been removed from those sites and we are the unlucky ones that get to hear is whining. Take your trash cans, your basketball hoop or your cars off the street.

Tom it would be easier if you just learned to live with the rules for your HOA.

There's an anti HOA forum on reddit that would be perfect for Tom.
