I have been told that since Hurricane Irma insurances companies are no longer insuring perimeter fences in gated communities in South West FLORIDA. aNYONE AWARE OF THIS?

Define the fence? Is it an individual or the entire HOA fence? Is it for gated community access?

We have a claim in for damage from Hurricane Ian to our fence/wall (masonry posts with fence in between) that is specifically covered in our insurance policy. I believe your information is incorrect. Our association is in southwest Florida.

It is entire HOA FENCE. ours was decimated by Ian and the reason it was not insured was because insurers in SW Fl. were no longer insuring fences after hurricane Irma per our board. Is there ins co insuring perimeter fencing. It is a gated community.

and you might want to get thicker metal tubing. most aluminum fences are made of the cheapest thinest aluminum tube posssible. they are made for honest thieves, because any one could bust through one easily with a portable battery angle grinder.

Your board is just plain wrong or got bad advice from an insurance agent. Or just didn't want to pay for insuring the fence. Our original insurance carrier for our property insurance pulled out of Florida after Irma. Our new insurance carrier (a famous insurance company from London) did insure our perimeter fence. In fact, we updated our list of all our insured items last summer and the fence was on there. We have a current claim in for the damage. And we are in Fort Myers, directly in the path of Ian. We had significant damage to the metal part of our masonry post and metal perimeter fence, to our chain link fence, and to the part that was all aluminum.

Wendy, you don't know what you are talking about with the metal (aluminum) fences used in our part of the world. They are plenty sturdy. But when any fence is hit with winds over 175 mph, it goes down. It can also have trees fall on it. Unless you have seen the damage from a Category 4 or 5 hurricane, you can't imagine what it is like.

Want to thank all who responded to fence insurance. The knowledge and experience on this site is priceless. Thanks to all. Hopefully can find insurance once repaired and replaced in a gated community in Ft. Myers, Fl.
