Has anyone ever undertaken a community wide signage update to include entrance sign, building number signs, pool signs, etc? Our entrance sign and building number signs are currently 25 years old and in need of a paint job at a minimum (wooden). The entrance sign to the community is somewhat dated in style as well and could use some attention.

Has anyone ever undertaken a project to update all of your signage? I'm making an argument with the board that if we do something we need to change out off of our signage to have a consistent look / feel across the property instead of doing it haphazard. If you did this did you hire a graphic designer for a new logo, a commercial sign company, etc?

We had to do it because we became public. The city changed our street signs. If private can find options. Maybe hire a wood worker to carve signs or a fab shop. Biggest issue is font type and size. Make it consistent.

We included it as part of our reserve study.

We had a designer for the entrance monuments, narrowed the options down and let the membership decide.

We utilized commercial signs (internet) for the rest of the signage.

Is it really a good use of money?

Vendors generally don't like piecemeal or small jobs, and will often quote you a lower per-unit price if you do the entire community. It's no different from buying in bulk at the grocery store vs. buying in small quantities. So there is that.

As a homeowner, I'd be on board with maintaining and replacing the current signage and with paying for all of it now in order to reduce overall costs. But I'd be giving some serious side-eye to hiring a graphics firm to give the community a "fresh look". New home builders do that sort of thing in order to encourage sales. A existing HOA isn't in that business - and I think you'd have a hard time making a business case that the money you'd spend on doing this would benefit the HOA in some way. (I suspect there'd be a few instances where you could make such an argument, but as a general rule no.)

I've done a lot of projects for the association. Professional help is valuable. It sounds like the signage you are describing is similar (but not exactly) what is called "wayfinder signs". Many cities hire companies to create wayfinder signs, and you can google this term for cities near you, and you may contact the cities to find out which vendor they used. I think that getting working with a wayfinder sign company would be valuable - you probably could get a cost estimate for the job and the pitch that to the board.
