Delaware and Illinois passed laws creating ombudsman offices in 2016. Four other states—Colorado, Florida, Nevada and Virginia have had them for a while now. I'm not sure if any new HOA bills have created ombudsman offices in the last 7 years.

This website says some of the Ombudsmen are paid by general tax dollars. and others by HOA fees.

Does anyone living in the above 6 states know how much and how often they pay?

Florida's Ombudsman seems particularly ineffective as it only applies to Condos/Townhomes, not HOA's. Given that it has take 2 to 3 years to get rid of bad embezelling boards in FL, I can assume the law does not give the ombudsmen enough power.

Virginia seems to only address transparency issues and makes sures the board follows their governing documents ; they do not get involved in ARC disputes or other CCR issues.

Anyone live in one of the remaining 4 states care to give their thoughts on how well the Ombudsmen/HOA works well or not so well?
