For some reason, I think I might have posted a similar article about this months ago, but I've also slept since then, so.....

This one talks about micromanaging, how to recognize it in yourself and reduce it, or at least try to. Micromanaging has been a problem with some HOA board members in relating to each other the association vendors, and of course, the property manager. Read, ponder, and if it applies to you, do better now that you know better. Enjoy!

Shelia has often accused me of micromanaging, but I don't do that.

For our association, our property manager has the requirement from her boss to work at the direction of the Board. It is clear to me that as long as she has e-mails that show what the Board direction is, and she follows the direction, her manager will be happy with her performance.

So I have grown used to providing endless Board direction to her. On several occasions, I have floated the idea of her working more independently, and each time she has reminded me how much she appreciates the continual direction that I provide to her, and reaffirmed that the volume of e-mails is not a problem.

It kind of drives me nuts at times when I have to approve every e-mail she sends out, but I know that she's just keeping the e-mail trail showing I approved it, and thus, her boss will be happy with what she is doing.

Meh, I've seen enough of your posts to conclude you do like micromanaging people, places and things..
it's not about whether I agree with your approach or not - if your board colleagues are OK with this and the homeowners are happy (except your arch rivsl) go ahead and do you.

I must say, though, this is a new take on your property manager. First you said she didn't seem to know how to work independently and now you say you need to send all these emails because her BOSS prefers it? I'm not sure I believe this, but I don't know any of you personally, so ok. Maybe HE should read tge article.

See a contradiction here? Also, her boss wants her to create an email trail so that they can prove if needed that you were the problem and not them.
