Thx to the prompt response by those who added topics to mine:
I am only interested to see if you all guests, sponsored by members who are with them at all times. Not interested at this time about anything other than whether guests are char charge a fee at all, daily or just special rates for limited use of the facilities such as tennis, pickleball or only to swim.
If no fee at all, ok. please say so. If there is a fee how much? Are their β€œguests”, meaning non owner and otherwise non dues paying individuals. Do they get in free or do they pay some fee to get in with their sponsoring member friend?
Appreciate your responses for a California Association.

Our community did not charge for guest. By the way this is a learning site and sometimes people will stray from the original question and broaden the scope. That's how we all learn.

Please see my response in your original post, Sonny. All residents' guests may use our recreational amenities at no cost.

Residents must pay, as noted, to reserve our party rooms based on the number of executed attendees.

In our assn., and I think in many, Owners who rent out their Units/homes may not use these amenities unless invited by the resident who's renting the Unit.

When we had our pool, we didn't charge for guests, but the homeowner or a member of that
household had to be with the guests at all times. We do charge rental fees for the clubhouse, and the homeowner has to be there.

Regardless of what people say here,, you know or should know you have to make decisions for your community based on its needs, not "well, everyone else does it,, so..."

It may take more time and thought, but how about considering how much it costs to clean the clubhouse or pool, how much wear and tear the amenities get, if there's more usage during the weekends and stuff like that? If it's costing more to maintain the amenities, tell the homeowners and get their take on whether fees should be charged and what it's costing the association right now?

I lived in two condos. The COA never charged for guests (of either owners or their tenants) to use the pool or tennis courts. Anyone who wanted to rent the clubhouses for a private gathering paid a separate fee or deposit.

As SheliaH seems to be suggesting, if wear-and-tear is happening faster than usual, perhaps on account of owners and tenants bringing more guests to enjoy say the pool in these ultra-hot summers, then perhaps there needs to be some kind of extra charge for guests. On the other hand, the cost of labor to administer this extra charge may argue against it.

It will depend on the particular amenity and community, but if guests are making it harder for homeowners to use the facilities, you're going to have issues.
