Many board members (current and former, like moi) have found ourselves doing A LOT for our communities. Some of it we volunteered for, and some of it we did because it had to be done and frankly, no one else bothered to step up.

Running ourselves ragged isn't good for ourselves, our families, or the community we're trying to serve, so here's an article with advice on setting priorities (again) and not tying ourselves up in knots when people seem to be indifferent to it all - or try to pile even more on your plate (yes, MichaelT21, I'm talking to you!)

The best thing I ever did for my mental health was to embrace mindfulness and to maintain a certain amount of detachment. It helps to understand how little control individuals have over things.

A funny observation I read once: "When I was in my 20s, I worried about what everybody was saying about me. When I was in my 40s, I didn't care what everybody was saying about me. When I reached 60, I realized that nobody was paying any attention to me at all." Nobody pays attention to old women, so we get away with all kinds of cr@p. It's our super-power.

Yup! And the older I get, the less patient I am with stupidity - sometimes it's easier to walk away, otherwise, you'll bang your brains out against a wall (or throttle the other person within an inch of their lives!)

One of the reasons I post these articles is because relationships are the heart of everything HOA-related., and perhaps we spend so much time haggling over what this or that CCR or Bylaw is saying that we forget about common sense (or don't have any and/or enough confidence in ourselves) to put aside the legal mumbo jumbo for the moment and determine what's really going on. If more homeowners and board members would slow their roll a bit and listen to the other side, maybe half of what people post about on this website wouldn't happen.
