I am a member of our HOA and on the social committee. I was wondering if anyone had any contact or suggestions for veders or sponsers for events. We have a budget but have to plan a Fall Festival for our community and need it to ROCK we had a hard time getting people involved and I would love any info any of you may have.

Kristen, you've already had your fall festival and I hope it did rock!

I came to this issue since we are a new subdivision and just trying to get neighbors together. Our first get together is September 30, 2006 and we contacted a Moon Walk vendor, and are also planning a cook out.

I'm just a volunteer, but this is a lot of WORK! We are beginning a "You've Been GHOSTED" afternoon, making 'Boo Bags' to deliver secretly to neighbors. Then for Christmas we're making ribbons for mailboxes, but after that, I'm lost.

I can only hope finding this site, I'll see a number of people with more experience than I have (NONE) in getting a social network of neighbors together.

Kristen,

I too am a newly elected BOD member. MY wife and I attended the last fall festival. I realized it would helpful to give significant amount of time for any and all social gatherings. We also did signs at the entrances of the community. This reminded the homeowner every day for the last two weeks before the fall festival, that day was soon approaching. Many homeowners work all week and tend to make plans months in advance, Perhaps including it in your news letter, as a reminder as well. Have the social party on or around the same day of every year. That will help. Try to have the fall festival to celebrate (kick off) the fall season.

I too would like to involve more of my community. If you have exhausted all other means then yes, try to lower the percentage. I am not familiar with how to do this though.

Good luck, I hope the suggestions you have received will help.

Also from experience--do not exclude ANYONE in your assn. Everyone pays dues (hopefully). Our assn. became a social board instead of an HOA and now they cannot get neighbors back and involved again. They were selective and still are about who enjoys the social gatherings. They invite everyone now but sometimes no one goes except the core group. It all fell apart because they tried to use HOA monies for select and personal reasons. If they made a boo bag, it was only put on certain doors. This type of thing will split a neighborhood in an instant. You sound like a small HOA so it probably would be easier to include everyone. In hindsight, it would have been best if the HOA would have paid for a once a year picnic instead of letting the social clubs do all of the select group entertaining in what appeared to be sanctioned by the HOA.

Oh wow! I can't imagine what they hoped to accomplish by doing that! We have about 105 homes, with around 30 of them rentals which has discouraged a number of people. But I figure, we are all neighbors if the renters like it here, maybe they'll buy, or maybe they will just want to participate, and we all want a safe, connected neighborhood, right?

Everyone seems excited about our first neighborhood cookout. I like the idea about keeping that as a future date as well. That makes for a tradition that people can look forward to as well as talking about it to other neighbors who are newer.

I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks for the encouraging words and advice.
Judy
