Looking for educational courses for board members.
Is the CAI Board Leader Certificate Course worth it?
How the heck can I convince other board members they should watch 4 hrs of video about HOA mgt stuff?
I'm guessing it's not very exciting.

Maybe I should just sneak in stuff I learn at every board meeting.

Board education is very important. But you may be able to find free courses. Management companies or law firms will often conduct trainings at no cost.

Expecting that it would be relevent to the issue being discussed, I think this is likely the best way to go.

If you hear of seminars (our attorneys would do one quarterly), make it known.
Otherwise, I wouldn't push the issue.

A major CA HOA law firm offers free webinars frequently, but I had little luck persuading other directors to enroll. Some local firms do, too., and a MC, though the webinars I attended of theirs weren't very useful.

Many of the major law firms here in Florida offer free online webinars for board members and continuing education.

Did you ever verify if your board members have taken the course as required by Florida Statute?

Is the $200 for one person or a group of people? I often encourage people to visit the CAI website for resources on various HOA matters, but you dont necessarily need a certificate. Just take some of the online classes or attend a local seminar if you have a local chapter.

I did that a lot when I was on the board and bought the materials to the next board meeting, I would summarize the training and If people wanted to look at the handouts or whatever I got they did. You don't have to view the entire video in one sitting - do one hour at a time.

Why not talk to the board about training in general and see if there are issues they'd really like more education on? Start with one subject, watch the video and then people can decide. Or you can designate one person to take the training, and he/she could train everyone else.

LOL. $200 for education you can receive for free. A "certificate" issued by the organization that represents the industry that makes money from CICs *MIGHT* be meaningful for the industry professionals, but is *COMPLETELY NONSENSICAL* for volunteer leaders. CAI is not in the volunteer leader business.
