There is no code for an HOA.

Did you check the IRS website? As Max, there's no code, but there is information on various tax documents - maybe you should try looking up 1120-H and see what it says

I did. Spent way too much time trying to track down under what provision does the IRS classify a COA a non-profit. It started as trying to determine when our tax return for 2021 was due, which was easy to find, but then I went down the rabbit hole trying to find the foundation.
On the 1120-H, I assume the interest and credit-union-dividend we received is not exempt income. I haven't filled it out yet, but we may actually owe a very small amount as it looks like we only get a $100 deduction against it.
