How to resign from an officer position and remain as a director?

I was voted in as a director, almost unanimously, by the members. Thanks to help from this forum on sticking up for owners.

In the organizational meeting I was voted into an officer position that I am not suited for.

I understand that at any meeting we, the board, can motion to change officers.

But how can I refuse the officer position, or resign from the officer position, even if the other directors motion me in each month?

And remain as a director per the owners votes?

Tennessee Nonprofit Corporation Act Section 48-58-404:
An officer may resign at any time by delivering notice to the corporation. A resignation is effective when the notice is effective unless the notice specifies a later effective date.

If the other directors keep voting you in as the officer each month, the instant after the vote you resign, calmly and with poise.

They're behaving like children to continue to do this. It is what is is. You can put up with these children or quit altogether.

Simply say (preferably in writing), "I resign the position of (blank) and I refuse to serve in this capacity. I am retaining my director position."

No one can force you to be an officer.

Augustin & Ben nailed it. Follow their advice. Yes, in writing is best.

Update:

I gave the board a heads up that I was resigning from my officer position five days before the meeting, and that we should allocate some time on the agenda to elect someone else for that position.
I bought my letter in writing for the records.

It didn't go well.
5 board members including myself.
one went irate.
the other four including myself were fine with this discussion. One board member volunteered himself to fill that position. Great solution.
Four yes's to that motion, Director Irate said No.

Then Director Irate used a lot of derogatory words towards me for resigning my officer position.
Even though we just solved the problem.
Asked how we can get me fired as director.
Packed up his bag and left, before we could move on to the rest of the agenda.

But honestly, if feels good that it is done.
*I did not give in to being bullied.
*I stayed calm and stuck to protocol
*I am no longer doing an officer position that I am not suitable for
*Another director volunteered to fill that position
*Everyone in the room witnessed in person the hostility directly towards me, which is something that has been happening behind the scenes, but it was clearly on display today in front of everyone.

It was a rough meeting, but all in all the end result was good.

I read the responses to this post before I went into this meeting, to remind myself it is perfectly fine to resign from an officer position that I am not suitable for, and not to give in.
Thank you.

JanineR, I was not at the meeting of course. But if you stayed calm and collected, and given Director Irate again embarrassed himself and then, (whoo hoo!) walked out, then you "won" by a landslide.

Well done, Janine.

Your board continued to conduct business after Director Irate stormed out, right?
