Well it appears we got one of "those" in my new HOA. First it was posting how much they hated animals. A cat had shown up at their house that set them on a rampage. Instead of simply posting "Is this your cat"? Threats of animal control and stories of how her children and her are "allergic" to pets... The admin had to shut down that post due to the nature of her attitude.

Now, someone posted how they wanted a "Slow children at play" sign put up. Apparently they feel people are "speeding" on our short streets. (As if they have a radar gun). The developer installed traffic islands in the middle of the streets to slow traffic. Plus most of the streets are cul de sacs. So it's not a neighborhood which anyone would shortcut through. The "speeders" would mostly be the construction workers.

Somehow the conversation turned into "I want traffic humps". It was posted they wanted to know the process to get that to happen. They were going to make "phone calls". I stepped in having been through the process knowing it wasn't going to happen. We are still developer controlled, not enough traffic, and developer has put in traffic islands. Well that set this woman off. All of sudden I was "Not helpful" and should stop contributing if I wasn't going to. My response was "What was it NOT what you wanted to hear so I am NOT helping? Go down the rabbit hole it's ALL yours". Somehow pointing out the steps one has to take to get "speed humps" wasn't good enough for her. Especially when I said you have to start with the HOA/Developer first. Something she tells me she isn't going to do...

Again the thread had to be stopped due to her comments. Luckily, I was able to post the steps for the other neighbors to read before it was turned off. It's like do NOT ask for how the process works and then get mad if you don't like it. Plus she was going on about her children safety. I am like don't have your kids in the street! Why is the HOA responsible for your children safety if they are in the middle of a street with a car coming? Speed humps are built in ramps for the kids attracting more of them to play...

Had to vent a bit on this one. I am sure you all have one of "those" you want to scream at too! So do NOT want to be involved in this HOA except to pay dues once a year...

How is this communication going on? Maybe that is the real issue.

Right now someone has made a facebook page for our community. So it isn't even "official" HOA page. It's just for things like missing packages/deliveries/pets. Sometimes it's questions or heads up for things in the community. Not seen by the official HOA Declarant/MC. No one seems to like the MC representative. It's even posted up front they won't see the page at all. (I know another HOA that fired that same MC). The Declarant is not my builder. It's the other builder who owns it right now. It's split between the neighbors who live on only 3 - 4 streets.

What is shocking is this person is supposed to be a "nurse". At least she is to be in "nursing school". Another neighbor across from me is friends with her from the same school. So far she has made several people angry. The things that she posts are way overboard. Even had neighbors PM after they shut off the posts say "WTH?".

I just told her to go on and do the "speed hump" phone calls. Got my full support on that. Let her learn. We are developer controlled/own. They have already put in islands that split the road for 1 way traffic only on either side. They are done before a planned (not completed) cross walk is installed. It's nearly impossible to "speed" in this neighborhood. Parents need to keep their kids out of the roads.

We just don't meet the criteria for speed humps and already have "islands" in place just for this.

Boy oy boy--I know your pain. We've got about 30 of "those", and most frustrating part is that they were created and stirred up by a rouge pissed of Board member. >:-(

It is unfortunate that toxic people have such power to make other people's lives difficult. I believe that there are individuals who simply have angry personalities and that does come out at different times.

We have a speeding issue for sure but the HOA has zero ownership of the streets so despite our efforts our hands are tied.
Will your HOA own your street after it is turned over? If no abs they’re owned and maintained by the state, city or whomever point them in their direction, our village will never install speed humps due to the wear and tear they cause which is their argument.
The one thing they do for us is randomly put up large speed boards so it does drive attention to those who may be going a little fast. If they can do this for you, tell this person to stand outside and monitor the speeders she’ll either see they aren’t actually speeding or maybe can talk to the few that do and ask them to slow down.
