Binx lived at Champlain Towers South Unit 904. Two of his family fell several stories and survived, though with serious injuries. A third family member did not survive. For great photos, video and story, see:

In the back of my mind, I kinda thought that a kitty or two (or more?) might survive this, especially in the units where half the unit was still standing.

There may be more pet survivors. They have set up traps for them around the area. I heard a sad story that a family wasn't able to get their pet before they took down the other half. Not sure how true and accurate this report is. Maybe they were not allowed in themselves.

My guess is that there are other pets that will be found roaming outside the rubble. Atleast I hope that is true.

I heard a sad story that a family wasn't able to get their pet before they took down the other half.
I saw another report that said Binx's home in Unit 904 was one of the ones that sheared in half. From one report:
"Binx either survived the collapse or escaped what was left before the rest of the building was brought to the ground in a controlled demolition."

Before the remainder of the building was brought down, rescuers left food and water out for Cat "Coco" on the fourth floor unit and also called for him. The fourth floor unit was also sheared in half. There were no signs of Coco. Time will tell.

LetA, WaPo commenters' estimate of how many lives Binx used up is averaging about five.

"Binx" is sure living up to his name. Google for the meaning.

A three-year-old child was found in the rubble Friday.

Damn COAs.

Here's an interesting article regarding the work of the coroner's office in this tragedy -

I would suggest that people living in high-rise condos pay close attention to the paragraphs under the "Reflect and Redress" sub-headline, as it asks a number of questions those association boards may need to consider, whether they live near water or not.

The article SheliaH linked is by a forensic pathologist. This statement has value for me:

"In the end, though, it is likely that all the missing people in the Surfside disaster will be identified."
