How is it best to notify occupants that they should take extra precautions because in other condo areas close by, there has been a rash of vehicle breakins, unit breakins, etc? I think a notice of some kind should be rendered BUT.. at the same time, people should not be placed in a panic mode. Has anyone had good experience in this matter?

Jim, for items like this we provide a notice to all owners on our email list. It can also be posted on the HOA website. We advise the police and ask them to watch the neighborhood whether or not the HOA has either.

Thanks Roger... I was more interested in what to say to the occupants without unduly alarming/panicking them.

Roger is right, that is what a good email list is for. I think the appropriate thing to tell them is that there has been some criminal activity of whatever nature in this location. Remind them that criminals like easy targets, put cars in garages (if you have them), lock them up, don't leave valuables in them. Just point out the facts.

Thanks Brad and Roger.. I like that non-alarming approach.

Have you thought about forming a type of neighborhood watch? I am not sure if that subject has been covered here in this forum??
