They can ask you to keep your property in good condition. It only benefits everyone if yours and neighbors property looks proper. A clean sidewalk sounds like a good thing.

Is this sidewalk really and truly on city property or is it more or less an easement across your property which allows the city to place a sidewalk? There may be other easements, for utilities, storm drains, etc.

Do you have a copy of the plat of your property? Does it depict the sidewalk? Is it within the boundaries of your lot?

We an urban one-square block twin high rise. The city owns the sidewalks, but we must clean them. Downtown owners pay an extra fee to have our sidewalks washed once a month.

But your city, Jerry may be different.

This is as it was in my last HOA. Owners were responsible for cleaning the sidewalk in front/side of their property.
