On October 24th we held our first election of 5 Board members. The election was conducted by the management company that the builder had put in place. The election was conducted at our club house. After the last ballots were collected, the management team went into the association office to count the votes (some of us wanted them to count the votes in public). After counting, they came out and posted the winners. They said that the count would be posted the next morning. I came back the next morning and was told by the property manager that they were not going to post the count. Now, get ready for the reason!! We do not want to embarrass any of the candidates. I have never heard of anything so crazy. I told her that I needed to know the count, because, if the numbers were close we might want a recount.

This election took place in Illinois. Could anyone tell me if this is legal and is there any way I can get that count.

Robert, the Tellers committee (in this case managing agent rather than 2 or 3 members) should provide the count to the Chair. Your question on the count should be made then; before the Chair announces those who are elected.

Since the managing agent said the count would be posted they need to honor their word. If they don't it should raise questions, including whether to keep them. You can also demand to view and count the ballots yourself.
