Our community pool has aging pool furniture that is the plastic strap over metal design. We have 10-15 lounges and 20 chairs plus 4 tables with umbrella holes. We have replaced the umbrellas since that's easy but have merely trashed chairs as the straps break. Does anyone have a good source for lounges and chairs that won't break the bank? Is it more cost-effective to re-strap the chairs? Thanks for the help. We're located in Georgia.

Note our rules about company names, etc., Jackie.

We still have 20 y.o. Brown Jordan poolside furniture. We have re-stapped them twice as it was far cheaper than replacing with high quality furniture. Check Google for companies that do such work.

I order strap directly from a pool supply company and have my handyman re-strap as needed. He’s also painted frames that started to look worn. That stuff can last decades if you want it to.

Ask a pool company what they may recommend. We too had issues with old furniture and straps etc... I also think it involves the maintenance of these items too. We make sure to stack them during the winter and keep out of light. Take a bit of time to maybe do some preventative work on them. Maybe add some Flex seal stuff on the leg bottoms to protect them from rusting.

We washed ours using Green friendly products. We may dumped them in the pool once in awhile for the chlorine to kill germs.

Start looking at replacement costs. Get an idea to know what it will cost to put it in your budget.

We touch up paint the metal too. Given our moderate climate, the furniture sets outside year 'round. Melissa reminds me that you want to make sure you have them on your reserve study.

Oops, I should have phrased that differently and asked for a brand/style recommendation. I was wondering if the sling style furniture is better than the strap style. I now wish we hadn't just trashed the ones with broken straps.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into it. Other board members are of the opinion that restrapping would cost the same. I'll do some research.

Thanks, Melissa. We do stack and keep under an overhang during the winter. We haven't had any rust issues. Our biggest problem is that the straps wear and become brittle. We had included a guesstimated replacement cost in our budget, however, some unforeseen expenses have caused us to nix replacement/repair this year. Hopefully, we can fit into the budget for next year.

We are having the same issue. We won't be putting out all the furniture again due to Covid-19.
We DID budget money this year but we will most likely hold off on purchasing new stuff until next year.
Our team went through everything yesterday and threw out the bad stuff and made repairs to others.
We don't have a large area and have to follow strict city rules that are in place.
As a matter of fact we have to submit our plan to the city a few days after our next meeting.

Jackie,

I can vouch that re-strapping lounge chairs and painting the old metal frames, at the same time, is cost effective.

You'll need to call some pool companies/patio furniture companies in your area as the service isn't widespread and we've also used a local vendor who then ships the furniture for refurbishment. Nonetheless, the process has been easy as the company picks up and delivers at your location.
