Wouldn't it require a full time individual or more? Is it an expense that the HOA members might not be amenable to supporting. Keeping in mind that I have no idea what the cost of such an enterprise might be. How is the newsletter given to the renters/owners?

Jim, I am for having a HOA newletter (even when there is a website). It is a great way to provide information to all owners for little cost. The amount of effort and cost depends on the number of pages and the frequency of distribution. Some HOAs offset the cost with advertising. Some use a volunteer editor. Some pay children to distribute, while others mail it with their billing statements.

Jim,

We have a monthly newsletter that is supported in the most part by local advertisers. We have a newsletter committee made up of regular and contributing writers. Anyone in the community can write an article as long it is not political. The BOD opens the newsletter with a statement of what is going on currently in the community and the future plans. We take one of the By-Laws we have and decipher it. It makes for an educated homeowner. Questions and answers that have been posed to either the BOD or the PM. There are pictures of events that are happening. Birthdays and anniversaries, restaurant reviews, homes for sale and much more.

Ours is a glossy 15-20 page magazine. It costs about $1200 per month to publish and is distributed by the committee. The individuals split up the streets and deliver it to the front door.

A newsletter is an excellent idea and can be as elaborate or as simple as you want. We have a quarterly one that is mailed with our statements, it is 4 pages, black and white and is made by a volunteer. The only costs we have are printing and mailing. We obtained advertisements to cover the costs.
