From HOATalk:

Our most requested enhancement is to show the state of the person posting a message. This is so responder's can help more by quoting the proper state laws or norms.

Well, we have now added that feature in test mode. The state of the person posting (if provided to HOATalk) will now appear below their username in all posts.

Feedback on this is welcome.

Great idea. Thanks! Everyone is always asking, "what state are you in" before trying to intelligently answering a post. Harold

I've noticed poster DJ1 does not have a state listed under his name. Is there a particular reason for that?

Well, if I can make a nomination for the second most requested enhancement, it would be to allow editing of a post, at least for a short time such as 30 minutes so a poster could correct spelling mistakes or clarify his or her post.

I think posting their state is marvelous and will assist many posters to give the right opinion that coincides with their state laws.

However, you state "if provide" why isn't it mandated that the poster give HOATalk their information before being allowed to post? I believe giving their state doesn't violate any confidentiality laws.

Well, I apparently can't go back in and delete my "state" (region?).

If it were something I would prefer not to be public, then I don't have the option of doing that.

It was my understanding that it was something we were supposed to fill in.

Maybe not. I just find it interesting that all the other posters have their states indicated.

Well over 90% of registered members do provide their state, so we have not found it necessary to develop the code to require the state on initial registration. Plus they could always change it or blank it out later.

DJ1 did not provide a state on initial registration. We do prefer that people list their state so we have an idea of where the members are from. This can help us plan new features, etc.

If you really want it blank, then to change/blank out your state, click My Account...Manage Profile. (blank is an option).
Your postings would be updated to reflect the change during the job run each night, so they won't change right away.

We don't plan to allow post editing for several reasons:
(1) To keep the integrity of the conversation flow; e.g. if major edits are made then the replies could no longer make no sense.
(2) To allow easier monitoring of posts. If a post has been looked at and deemed OK, then it will always be OK, because it can't be changed later.

The 30 minute idea is interesting, but our current software can't offer that feature and it would cost several thousand dollars to implement it.

We appreciate all suggestions and hope you understand why this one can't be implemented at this time.

It's great to see that the masses are heard!!! Thank you for the state listing. This feature answers one of the most popular questions asked in response to posters. Now, can you get everyone educated on their respective documents?

Displaying the state is certainly an improvement but you really need to have the ability to sort by state. What applies in Arizona or Florida, excluding human nature, has no bearing whatsoever in California or Oregon.

That's wht I do... most of the time, but using the spel chkr too helps. Spell checkers don't have brains, it would probably miss that one.
Do appreciate knowing the State!

That's a good start! Here's another suggestion. You have a search capability of ALL the content of the forum (which I just did by California). Now, how about a search capability that is a sub-sort of my sort. For instance, I'd like to talk with all the CALIFORNIA posters (preferably LOS ANGELES) about INSURANCE -- general liability and property and then EARTHQUAKE insurance.
The insurance companies really GOUGE the HOAs and use deliberate tactics to keep you from comparing policies ahead of time.
Anyway you can sort and then sub-sort? Can you implement?

Just read the thread and was surprised to see me mentioned here. I know MicheleD likes all the facts to 'help' make an informed decision. I just went to edit my profile but can't find the 'state' option nor is it applicable since I am in ON CND. Never trying to mislead MicheleD.

Should have added Michele that the CCR's here were based on those used in Arizona HOA's.

While we are all from different jurisdictions the thing that brings me here is seeing and learning how different HOA's from other areas operate on a day to day basis. Even though I'm not a HOA member (thought we were for a time but you know that story) I interact daily with members so I have a vested interest in gaining a better understanding the HOA beast so to speak.

Across all jurisdictional boundaries the one common element of all HOA's are the PEOPLE. It isn't the rules or laws that make or break a HOA, it is the People! Most of the problems are people problems not law problems.

Hope this disclosure puts your mind at ease that I am not a troll looking to bash HOA's.

DJ1....welcome aboard.....glad to see that someone realizes that HOA'S are about the people....For your "state"....when you go to edit your profile,it doesn't ask for your state per se--- it asks for location....just put in where you are located and the y do the rest....Enjoy the site.....LindaC3
