We all know that being a HOA Board member is a thankless task.

However, has anyone here received any honors/awards for their participation on the HOA board? If so, what are those honors/awards?

We used to give out modest plaques with peoples' names engraved on them in appreciation of years-long service to the community. At first the HOA paid for them (est. less than $100 a year, only 1 or 2 awarded each year). Then some owners squawked and we found private individual homeowners who would procure them. They collected donations apart from any HOA linkage. Then when people moved away and/or stopped donating funds for the plaques, they stopped. No one has received one for 5 or 6 years now.

We didn't do that. The HOA money is for operational expenses not pats on the backs for doing what you volunteered to do...

My "award" was when someone brought me some delicious German potato salad when I was sick. It was a thank you when job well done was recognized. It was someone taking my dogs for walks while I was at work. (That is a funny story...) It was getting elected the next year.

People call the job "ungrateful". However, I found to do the job right you should be grateful to have it. It's an opportunity to be involved in your community and make changes. You get into being on your board or being an officer not for the awards/honors but for the duty.

As the new Board President, I sent sent thank you notes to the Owners who left the Board. We do not give out any awards for volunteer service.

When a director retires, at the annual meeting of members, we give them a coffee mug with a small bouquet of flowers in it. On it is their name, years of service on one side and our HOA name & logo on the other.

I was called the biggest Ahole on the BOD by an owner. Coming from that owner, I consider it an Honor.

Funny JohnC... I was compared to "Hitler" and referred to as "Dictator" by a few. Kind of liked it actually... Would tell them "Well then you have to do what I tell you if I am a Dictator"... LOL!
