Hi all,

Our community of 204 single family homes is replacing our aging STB-4B mailboxes with new STD-4C standard mailboxes to help deter theft.

Does anyone have experience with brands of mailboxes? Any experiences with Florence vs Salisbury? Any other tips or recommendations for the process?

Our mailboxes are currently located outside of our gated community near the main road. Would it worth the cost to move them inside the gate when we reinstall them? You can still enter the property via foot in other ways, but vehicle traffic would be controlled by gate.

My townhouse community still has individual mailboxes at the house, but one of our former board presidents mentioned there was talk of the Post Office requiring central locations for mailboxes in our communities. I haven't heard anything since then, so it'll be interesting to see how people respond here.

The posting rules prohibit naming specific vendors, so you may have to send private messages to people who've used Brand A vs. B, but I would suggest you start with a homeowner poll to see what they think about relocating the mailboxes. I suspect people like them outside the community so they can pick them up on the way to their homes, but have there been concerns about the mailboxes being damaged or someone trying to break in them?

If you move them inside the gate, how can you reduce traffic jams (setting up several spots around the community?) Could there be issues with the truck getting through the gate to deliver the mail (perhaps provide a code to the local office that serves your area)? You already know you need to address durability and perhaps charges to replace lost or stolen keys to individual mailboxes.

If it is not right do not do it; if it is not true do not say it. Marcus Aurelius

Id suggest talking to your postal carrier.
They may have some insight for you.

Good advice. Be sure USPS will allow the mailboxes to be inside the gate.

Please discuss that if you go to a group mailbox, make sure that a section of the mailboxes container has a place for packages.

Keep in mind that a STB-4B mailbox is cluster boxes (which the OP currently has).
The STD-4C mailbox, also a cluster mailbox, is simply designed differently.

The post office is now requiring STD-4C style for new developments.
If you have the old style, you may replace with same or change to the new.
