Hello:
I am the secretary of our HOA of 90 townhomes. Our builder used pavers for all driveways and sidewalks in the development. Construction started in 2008 and was completed in late 2010. The president noticed this weekend that 3 units have apparently stained their driveway pavers (and some of the sidewalk, as our driveways technically end at the side walk which is also considered right of way/street), in part because they were "faded."

Any of you out there been faced with "faded" pavers? If so, what did you do about it? Re-stain the pavers when you pain the buildings (for example)? Since the driveways are technically the owner's responsibility in our development, would the HOA still be "on the hook" to stain those as well?

Looking for the thoughts of those who have been faced with this problem before. TIA!

If you strive for a common look, as we do, we would not allow an owner to "color" their driveway. That said if you do not strive for a common look and you may even like what they did, then set a "standard" (via Rules & Regulation) for doing such as to color and what can be colored. The fact they went beyond their driveway (over the sidewalk) that is probably what you should also allow.

I would say let the owners do it as per the R&R but also consider the association doing such when you have the buildings painted. This will help with a common look.

If going to allow such, take control of it.

Who controls weeds that grow up through the pavers?

Thanks for your thoughts, I will bring this up at our next quarterly meeting.

As for the weeds, we don't really get any growth, a little here and there. I spray my own driveway and surrounding sidewalk on occasion.

Sounds like Roundup Central if you don't get any weeds in Florida.
