There have been a number of conversations on this website about one or two board members (and homeowners) who seem to get their jollies intimidating, insulting, and just behaving like a jackass towards others. When they're on the board, it can be challenging for the others to deal with this person, even though he or she is only one vote. I find such people need to be put in their place quickly as soon as the idiotic behavior begins, otherwise, you end up with someone who can commit all sorts of havoc in the community.
But that's not always easy for a lot of people, because these folks can be really scary, and these days, you don't know who's packing. Here's an article I saw today on dealing with workplace bullies, which can be helpful in dealing with the HOA board bully or the chronic complainer among the homeowners (both?). The article also had a link to a previous article showing how you can identify one, although I suspect no one here has a problem with that. Hope it helps!
