Can a Board member(even if it is the Board president) unilaterally make a decision to cancel a planned monthly meeting?

Hmmmm ...depends on what your docs say.

I have, as prez, rescheduled many Board meetings ... never had any argument from o other members of the Board.

Are you asking as a non Board property owner?

No.... as a board member

What was the reason? COVID-19 related by any chance?

The entire board should agree to this and there better be a good reason.

The president is one vote, so what was the reason? If the rest of the just say there, why didn't they say something?

Ok so what was the reason? Didn't anyone ask? If not, why not?

George said he's rescheduled reasons without much static, but I'm sure he's also explained why it needs to be rescheduled. Usually the vice president would run the meeting if the president wasn't there, but sometimes that spot is vacant.

There are legitimate reasons for cancelling a meeting, but for some reason, you haven't asked and I really don't know why - are you scared of the guy? Read your documents and see what they say about officer duties. I doubt the president of anyone else has the power to just schedule or cancel a meeting at will. Time to stand up and ask - have other board members with you if you need moral support.

If the president does this or another type of power play again, the rest of you should grow a spine and appoint someone else as president.

I don't see the problem if a meeting has to change. Sounds like you want this to be "rights" thing than a reality one. Your more concentrating on whom has the right to cancel than maybe others agreed a better date would do. It's not like the other board members would say "Oh President can't show up, let's not have a meeting". That is what the Vice President position is for. If you don't have one, then Secretary can fill the bill. However, you may not have a quorum to take any votes anyways so what is the need for a meeting?

I say, no. It is the board's meeting, not the president's meeting. If the board doesn't agree by majority to cancel the meeting the meeting should go on.

Obviously, if there is a good reason why the meeting cannot happen, then I think it's ok for the president to announce that if has to be cancelled. Of course, if the board members disagree, they should say so.

If your bylaws say the board must meet once a month, then it should have been called to order, then adjourned to another time. This β€œ call to irder” could have been done by just the president.

Sue,

So you would have all the Board meet, knowing there is not going to be a quorum, or the material needed for the (even monthly) meeting is not going to be available - knowing the meeting would be immediately adjourned for a reason known in advance of the meeting? Then reschedule for the next month?

How do we all get those hours of our lives back?

I'm with Ben. It's not the prez's meeting it's the Board. The prez should consult with the board if s/he wants to reschedule a regular meetings and the board should agree. Even in CA, this can be done online and there's no violation fo the Open Meeting Act
