Are these practical or too complicated for non-tech savvy people?

If someone does not have a webcam or microphone, can they still participate in a meeting?

This is unapproved software for our company so we can not use it. So it may be impractical for others as well. I've never used it myself.

Easy. The one hitch is that if you have the Zoom app and you set up a meeting through the app, you have to click on “Start Meeting” on the app for the call/meeting to start. If you don’t, even if everyone has called in, the meeting won’t start and you’ll just hear music. The free version let’s meetings run 40 minutes and they automatically end.

While I am out in California, I was helping my daughter out and conducted a meeting using GoToMeeting. All the information on how to log in were included on the posted agenda and it was very easy to use. The Board packets were emailed a few days prior and the meeting last 30 minutes.

I used a laptop and used the built in microphone. The Board called in via their cell phones. No homeowners called in, but I understand none had attended meetings for six months.

Per the attorneys, it satisfies the legal requirements in California.

Will it make it difficult for some Board members who are not tech savvy, I suppose so, but the show must go on, as long as the Board can make quorum.

Yes, as long as they are conducted either via computer or a phone app.

We had a 3 hour Zoom meeting on 3/27/20 Our new PMC has a subscription for it and when I checked it was only $14.95 per month and anyone can be invited. Yes they have to be sent a link or have the app on the computer or their phone. Not sure how many people don't have an iPhone device in todays world but without it on a land line you can get the audio only.

It worked perfect for our meeting we were able to communicate without everyone jumping on others conversations and video quality was great for 6 people. We did not have enough time to work out the details for homeowners to join in this meeting but promised to get the meeting minutes out in less than a week and work to setup the call for all homeowners next time. We were also able to record the meeting with the app and it can be rebroadcasted on our PMCs protected site to ensure that only HOs are able to see the program. Not sure how many brave souls would be able to sit through a 3 hour meeting but maybe someone sitting in a recliner may care to watch.

My son is in College in Ca. but is now home in Texas with us and all of his classes are being done with Zoom. In that environment you have 1 lecturer and possibly hundreds of listeners.

Our Management company said that it was legal to use it for regular meetings since the public is only allowed to listen and not vote on matters.

FYI Zoom also allows people to call in by phone, for a regular voice call (even if the meeting is also on video). You don't need a computer or iPhone to use it, and you don't need a camera.

Hi,

The app is pretty user friendly. Participants don't have to have a webcam. They can use their phone to listen in and talk. I hope it works out for you.

Ask yourself will any electronic meeting program be useful when this virus thing blows over? If not, why bother. Meet by phone even if illegal. Who is going to challenge it?

You can actually set it so the meeting can begin when anyone logs on. Even better you can setup a co-host in case the host can't attend.

It's $15, free if you can keep it to 40 minutes. Even if you never use it again it's a simple and inexpensive way of having an open meeting and complying with the law, if your state requires it.

I see your point in an emergency but if you have a few days to plan you have no excuse for not having an open meeting. Remember, the board represents the association, not themselves, and the association has a right to be a part of board members.
