Our condo's master HOA insurance is coming up for renewal and the differences in price is over 30% for what appears to be essentially the same coverage. I write "essentially" as I don't feel completely confident that I understand the details, as a layman.

Is anyone aware of any paid service that can professionally and independently review such policies and make recommendations on their adequacy?
Or is it enough to trust state regulation and/or the agent?

Get competitive quotes.

The 30% may be excessive. Or not.

Here is the situation: a number of insurance providers have pulled out of Texas recently--they have found they cannot be profitable due to losses sustained due to hurricanes, tornadoes, hail, and flooding. This applies to condominiums and single family residence insurance, there is some variance in different areas of the state. The providers remaining are charging more to maintain profitibility and, because they can--the competition is reduced.

We have been warned by our agents there may be significant increases for our condominium clients at renewal time this year.

Yes, have your agent obtain competitive quotes. Do not be surprised if your policy will cost significantly more than in the last policy period, especially if you are in Houston or other areas subject to a quadruple whammy: hurricane, tornado, hail, flood.

Good luck

Just to clarify, we have quotes from different companies that are 30% different for what seems essentially the same a coverage and A or higher ratings.

What I'm still trying to find is if there a service, independent of these insurance agents, that can critically review each offered policy to make sure one isn't leaving something important out. Again, general insurance regulations may make that unimportant, but I don't know if that's the case.

I am not aware of any such services but then I have never gone looking for one.

There are those on this forum with far mare knowledge of insurance matters than I have, perhaps a suggestion will be made.

What you're describing is what an Independent Insurance Agency does. They have multiple carriers that they can deal with and shop your needs with them. If you google Texas independent insurance agent you will find many listed.

Take your existing policy declaration, outlining your coverages, have an independent insurance agent shop the exact coverage items.

YES - insurance companies can widely vary on HOA-type umbrella/liability coverage cost. If you stay w/ your existing insurer too long, your rates will creep into an competitive price territory.

I agree with using an Independent Agent but some do favor certain companies so maye best to have two or three Independent Agents shopping for you.
