I have owned and resided here for 25 yrs and I have never had a complaint. Whwn I complsined about the noise upstairs the tenant complained about my smoking. Now I wax told to smoke weed. I am a senior and neber have had any complaints nor have I ever not paid my hoa dues or assessments. They want a meeting with me should I ho and if so by myself?

If you do not attend, the HOA can lawfully rule against you and make your life miserable. You absolutely should attend. Bringing someone who knows the covenants well and what the latest is on 'smoking as a nuisance' in condominiums and apartments would help. Also you should bring your documentation of the noise.

Barbara,

I am not sure I am following your note ... could you provide additional background?

What Augustine said.

On the other hand, when you complained about the noise, did you try to resolve the problem with the neighbor before heading straight to the HOA? It's one thing if the neighbor ignored you, but usually people get pissed when folks complain to others without trying to fix the problem with them first.

As for the weed-smoking, the neighbor might not be responsible for that complaint, so be honest - has anyone spoken to you about that (smoke does go where it wants, after all, regardless of what creates it). In case the complainant also attends, apologize for the smell and discuss ways to lessen the effect (e.g. use air freshener and keep the window closed). If so, go to that person and apologize, and don't do it again (keep the window closed and use some air freshener). He/she might not admit
