Hi Everyone,

We are embarking on some updates around here and wanted to let you know that we made changes to the search page. It's been cleaned up to make the search list more readable and updated to include more informational topics.

I think you will find it more useful now.

Pro Tip: You can also search our site at Google.com. Just put this in front of your search:
site:hoatalk.com

Not sure how I feel about the Google option. I have noticed many more first time commenters on this site in the last few months. While I love to read the questions and answers. I would hate for this site to become another site controlled by Mad residents who complain about the Evil boards members in their HOA.

I really like to hear what other Board members that are experiencing similar problems have to say.

I have yet to try the new search. As for the Google option, yes it works and has worked for a long time. The problem is threads do not age into "archived" or "inactive" status. I think most re-activation of old threads happens becaise Google will return a link to it in a search result without regard to the fact that the last post on the thread was in 2013 (or whatever).

Threads should age out. That would be a bigger site improvement than anything. When a thread has no new posts for 6 months (or a year, or pick some other length of time) it should be "locked" and accept no new posts. That way Google results would still be good (sometimes the information in an old thread is still apropos) and people wouldn't be re-activating old threads.

Thank you for at least trying to improve the site.
