Can someone clarify want the following statement means that my HOA recently posted in July:

"Buckingham Condominiums, located in the City of Frederick MD was built by Ryan Homes to serve the retirement community of Frederick County and was the first community to locally offer elevators in each building. Historically residents in our community are retired, but some young professionals enjoy living here because they enjoy the peace and quiet our friendly community provides"

I 13 years ago and was never under the impression it was a retirement community. There was actually a playground located on the common elements when I moved it (which was taken down because it couldn't got to be very old). Would this info have to be stated in the bylaws or can an HOA just say that it "serves the retirement community?"

I'm looking to sell and I can't find clear information anywhere in my bylaws. Thanks!

If you don't see anything in the Bylaws or CCRs or declaration that this is an official retirement community, it probably isn't. Documents can and do change once the community is turned over to the homeowners by the developer - you don't say how old this one is, but perhaps the community voted not to be a 55+ community long before you moved in.

Dod you ask the board about this information? If so, what was the response?

By the way, the posting rules on this website prohibit using real names of HOAs - please post accordingly next time.

If it is not right do not do it; if it is not true do not say it. Marcus Aurelius

KristineK2 I used to live right there and never knew it was retirement either. (I was 22 at the time) hmm, wonder if i still have any documents from there?

I glanced over the docs filed with the county and I would guess that they are saying this to try to attract a certain age crowd, but that there are no age restrictions on the condos.

I bought around the age of 23 and they had a playground on the common grounds. I asked because our current HOA is trying to control who lives these to benefit themselves and not necessarily the whole community.
