I'm looking for material for an article I'm writing. For your information I have had several articles published about reserve fund matters in major community association periodicals, and I have co-authored a book on reserve funds as well.

Stemming from people who appear to have formed a favorable opinion of my work, I have received a number of reserve plans that I have been asked to provide opinions on. The fact is, in doing this, I have found that a high proportion of these reserve plans were of questionable value. They have been deficient, off-base or confusing. An example ... just the other day I looked at a plan where all the interest calculations were grossly in error. This resulted (and I kid you not) in earned interest being overstated by $260,000 over the 30 year planning period!.

My proposed article would be aimed at alerting Boards to the kinds of mistakes that could be made, and that are, indeed, actually being made. Nothing beats real-life example. I have quite a few already, but I'd like more. Can you help, please?

Naturally, the source all material I receive will be held strictly confidential. Please send your reserve plan experiences to: [email protected]

All contributions will be privately acknowledged and ... when the article gets into print you will be sent a copy of it. Thanks

Many of my articles have been published by the Communuity Associations Network http://www.communityassociations.net/ and appear on their website or in their Newsletter. The Newsletter is free and you can subscribe to it by visiting the CAN site.

I have had an article in Common Ground (the publication of the Community Associations Institute)and I can send you a copy if you e-mail me directly at [email protected] Another feature article will be in their Nov-Dec issue. Further, various chapters of the CAI have used my material in their local print and web publications.

For almost all my material you'd have to go to my website and I will supply the URL if you send an e-mail to me.

I'd like to let the members know that Graham approached HOATalk Support about his request before he posted it here. Graham was very polite in asking how he may make his request for information without breaking our 'no advertising' rules.

That is why he has not told you his company name, website address or the title of the book he wrote on reserve fund planning.

Graham, please make any corrections here: Graham's company develops and sells reserve planning software and Graham has co-authored a book on reserve fund planning. His request to the members is for an article he is writing.

Since he is not an official sponsor, we asked him not to publish his book title or company name as part of his request. We must do this in deference to our current sponsors & our current posting rules.

We thank Graham for trying to stay within the rules here and hope this helps clear up any misconceptions on his request.

Thank You,
HOATalk.com Support

First, I'd like to thank HOATalk for their support. I think they agree that the quest for material that would be assembled for the benefit of associations, is a good thing.

Now to your question Gloria. It's not that I mind you asking it, but I have nowhere stated that I do reserve studies. Just as some engineers "do" engineering, others write, teach, carry out research and innovate. If I were an engineer I would fall into the latter group. I have been gratified by the respect I have been shown for my output, and I hope to continue producing it well into the future.

You may read my online bio if you like. I will send a private e-mail to you to provide you with the link to it.
Graham
