I am new to HOA's and would like to know if an employee of the HOA is allowed to be on the board of directors.

Your governing docs (CCRs, Covenants, Deed Restriction, Bylaws, etc.) should define who can be a director. In some associations only members (owners) can be, others have no such restriction. Absent anything to the contrary in your docs, you could check AZ state law. If both are silent there's probably nothing to stop members voting in an employee as a director.

Are you a homeowner ("member") ? Are you an employee of the HOA where you live?
The requirements to be on the board of directors usually include being an owner (member) of the association (HOA). The requirements usually are found in a governing document call the bylaws, so read that. They are different for different HOAs and for different states.
In my opinion, it's not a good idea for an owner to be an HOA employee at all let alone be on the board.

Sorry--messed up my lat sentence. IMO, HOA employees should not be on HOA boards.

The person I am talking about is the maintenance guy. He is a home owner. He is being a problem to many of the home owners and is using his role a vice president as a crutch. "I am vice president and I make the decisions around here." He is on a power trip. I was hoping there is a rule of sorts to get him off the board.

if he is an issue... dont vote for him next annual meeting.. as far as him being an "employee" it usually is ok , documents would say for sure.

Again, Curt: Are you on the Board? Whether or not you are; the board can vote him out of the office of VP. read your e documents, especially your Bylaws. The bylaws also say the duties of the VP> Curt, you & other who are concerned need to READ your bylaws.
